Ford redux

Poputonian has a post up over on Hullabaloo (Rolling over in my grave) that pretty much sums up my memory of that time. I was about 10 when Nixon resigned from office, and then was pardoned by Ford shortly afterwards. I remember thinking, "WTF?!" because I had assumed (like most Americans at that time, I now know) that Nixon would be expected to have his day in court and pay the penalty if found guilty by a jury of his fellow Americans. On the day of Ford's pardon, we the people found out that Justice isn't as blind as we'd been lead to believe watching all those 60s TV shows. For some many of us, the aftertaste of unfairness has been lingering all these years. I suppose this was just an early example of 'IOKIYAR' (It's OK if you're a Republican!'). Clinton got more articles of impeachment voted against him than Nixon did. Talk about lowering the bar...now while everyone is waxing nostalgic over Gerald Ford, we currently have someone in the oval office who makes Nixon look like an amateur...

Bloggered

Well. I just updated a blog I do for my parents over to the new version of Blogger, and decided it would be oh so nice to only have to log in once to get to either blog...not thinking about all the possible ramifications of attaching their blog to my account, which has my profile (instead of theirs)...so their profile has been overwritten - no big deal, really. But it also means I have to make mine much more generic, so stuff doesn't show up on their site that doesn't belong there.

Whaaaa! But yeah, now I have access to both sites from the same login, which does sae me some time and some bytes in the noggin (now I don't have to remember the username and password we set up for my parents to administer their blog, only to have me administer their blog for them).

Hat tip to Atrios (who "is" Margaret Sanger).

random snark

I usually wouldn't post about anything so trivial, but:

Can I just ask the newspapers to quit printing stories about this loser?

Singer Pete Doherty smiled and hugged fans outside a London court Monday after a judge ruled he will not serve jail time for possession of drugs including heroin and crack cocaine.

This guy is addicted. Big deal. Nobody in the U.S. has heard of this guy, never heard of his band, so we don't CARE.

You can, you know, post his obit when it's all over with. In the meantime, we don't need to hear about every time he violates his parole.
